At the end of last year's con, the Con Comm knew going in that it was possible that we would not be able to mount a full edition of BASCon. Due to a perfect storm of dates and timing, our usual weekend in November was not available and we weren't left with much wiggle room. During the Dead Dog, we let our membership know at least some of what was happening but we also committed to finding a way to have some sort of BASCon presence during 2009. After several months of wrangling (and resting up!), we came up with a plan: we're going to have a slumber party.

BASCon 9 Overnight will be a one room affair. We're taking over one of the ballrooms at the Embassy Suites in South San Francisco (our home base) and we'll have some food and fun. We're also going to experiment with fluid programming - some panels will be set but we're leaving the space open for whomever is around to throw out a subject and hold forth. Registration/check in will open on Saturday afternoon at 3:00 pm with the room opening up at around 4:00 pm and programming running until around 1:00 am. We'll reopen Sunday morning and run until 12:00 pm. Although we won't have room for a formal dealer's space, people are welcome to sell out of their rooms if they attend.

This is going to be a challenge and there are still bugs to be worked out, however we felt that this approach will enable us to have a BASCon presence in 2009 and give the Con Com the chance to recharge and start preparing for BASCon 2010 and our 10th Anniversary celebration.
